Emergency responders from the Piedmont Police Department, Piedmont Fire Department, and Piedmont Rescue were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle collision.

Preliminary findings indicate that a Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound crossed the center line into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming commercial semi-truck. Both Lowe and Spicer, who were occupants of the SUV, were pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Coroner Pat Brown.
